Thankful Thursdays: For the Love of Discipline

About a year ago I embarked on a journey of self discipline. (Well, at least that’s what it felt like). I began to fast one day a week. Just as a way to control my appetite and cravings, and more importantly, as a way to focus on things that were more important than food. (For me those things were God, Grace, Gratitude, and Giving). I reaped so many benefits from my weekly one day fast! I began to really take stock of what foods I was putting into my body. The day before my fast, and the day after, I drank only water and ate mostly vegetables, salads and healthy stuff. As a wonderful perk, I began to shed a few unwanted pounds! Unfortunately, when I started school, my weekly fast fell by the wayside.

Now that I am finished with school, I decided to begin my Day of Discipline once again. Yesterday was my first day back, and boy was it crazy!!! I had a raging headache for most of the day and went to bed at 6pm! (Thank you Rob for feeding the kids and putting them to bed. Every girl should have a Robert 🙂 ) It felt like torture, and the funny thing was, I was not even hungry or craving food!

I’m rambling on about all this because I am thankful today, for recognizing that I am disciplined in some areas of my life. I love food. I enjoy food. I get excited when I think about my favorite dishes, desserts and snacks. But they don’t control me, and that is something to be thankful for.

What areas of your life are you most disciplined in?

Thankful Thursdays: Celebrating the Little Things

Life is made up of moments. Some good, some amazing, some . . . not so great, yet all are irreplaceable. With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, the festive feeling of the holiday season has made me pensive— in a good way! Around this time of year, things tend to get a little hectic in our household. So, I’ve decided to set aside Thursdays @ The LookBook Philosophy as a day to slow down, stop and share a moment of thanks. It doesn’t have to be anything monumental. Just a way to share a moment, a word, or photo of something I am grateful for that might otherwise be lost in the hustle and bustle of the day.

What are you thankful for today?
